The High School Equivalency Test (HiSET) began in January 2014 and gives adults and out-of-school youth an opportunity to demonstrate their academic skills and earn the New Hampshire High School Equivalency Certificate.

WHAT WE OFFER
It is mandatory to pass the HiSET practice test before you are able to take the full HiSET examination. The practice test is administered monthly both day and evening at the Adult Learning Center. The practice test costs $15 cash or money order.
If you have taken the practice HiSET elsewhere, you will need to provide a copy of your scores when registering for the full HiSET exam.
Practice Tests are administered in Writing, Mathematics and Social Studies. Testing takes approximately 3 ½ hours. Results and recommendations are given at the end of the test session.
The Adult Learning Center offers monthly day and evening HiSET examinations. Preregistration is required at least two business days prior to an exam. HiSET Tests are administered in two sessions over two days, with each session lasting approximately 4 – 4 ½ hours. Results will be available at the HiSET portal, which may be accessed online with the test-taker ID number.

Rescheduling a HiSET
If it is necessary to reschedule a HiSET due to illness or emergency, please call the Adult Learning Center at 603-882-9080 x 201 at least 24 hours in advance to avoid a cancellation or rescheduling fee.
Retaking the HiSET
If it is necessary to retake a HiSET due to failure of the exam or if it is necessary to reschedule a missed exam, please call the Adult Learning Center at 603-882-9080 x 201 for instructions. Candidates are allowed to take each of the five HiSET tests no more than three times during a calendar year (January through December.) Retakes cost $15 each.
Special Accommodations In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, special accommodations are allowed for HiSET Testing for physical disabilities, emotional disabilities, learning disabilities and Attention Deficit/Hyper-Activity Disorder (ADHD) and Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD.) Accommodations include but are not limited to private testing room, extended time, reader and scribe.

HiSET tests with accommodations are scheduled at the convenience of the candidate and the HiSET Chief Examiner.

March 25 at 4:30 PM – HiSET Practice Test (paper-based). Please be seated in Room 300 before 4:15 PM.
March 25 and 27 from 1:00 - 5:30 PM – HiSET Test (computer based). Please be seated before 12:45 PM downstairs in the Office Technology Computer Lab.
April 1 and 3 at 4:30 – HiSET Exam (paper-based). Please be seated in Room 300 before 4:15 PM.
April 15 and 17 from 1:00 – 5:30 PM – HiSET Exam (computer-based). Please be seated before 12:45 PM downstairs in the Office Technology Computer Lab.

WHO WE SERVE
The minimum age to take the HiSET exam is 16. Applicants under 18 must obtain permission to test from their local high school. Please obtain details for the procedure from the Lake Street Main Office, 603-882-9080 x201.
HOW TO REGISTER FOR HiSET
Register for the HiSET at http://hiset.ets.org
- Students must have an email account or set up an email address before registering online.
- Click on the test-taker tab to view information about the New Hampshire test. Information for each state is somewhat different, so reading the information is important.
- In the upper right-hand corner is the place to sign-in or create an account profile. Once the account sign-in is complete, the test-taker ID is generated. The test-taker ID is required for everyone taking the exam.
HOW TO SCHEDULE HiSET
An exam is scheduled at the Adult Learning Center between 8:30 AM and 4:00 PM Monday through Friday from September through May. Students may also schedule a test between 4:30 PM and 6:30 PM on the first and third Thursday of the month.
To schedule the exam you will need:
- Your test-taker ID (from registering on the HiSET website)
- A government issued picture ID such as Driver’s License, Non-driver’s License or Passport.
If your government ID does not have your current address listed, you must supply two pieces of mail as proof of New Hampshire residency.
- The $95 examination fee in cash or money order.
- Proof of the successful completion of the HiSET Practice Test.
Please plan on thirty minutes to complete scheduling.
